The second version of G’OLD (“Good-Old”) Korea Vinyl Mixtape goes down tonight at Bar <EXIT> next to the Hongdae playground. Sample most of modern Korea’s music styles here.
The first G’OLD Korea was a private party and it was a smashing success.
Tonight will mark the first public admission G’OLD Korea. “Expect warm air, vinyl sounds and vintage flavors with DeeJaying by Gopchang Jongeol & G'OLD.”

Belly dancing!
Korea’s best known Canadian belly dancer — Eshe, who graced our cover in May 2011 — is taking bellydancing in Asia up a notch with the first annual Asia Raqs International Bellydance Festival in Seoul from June 15 to 17. Also at the Asia Raqs International Bellydance Festival, there will be bellydance workshops taught each day at Dream Dance Studio.

Krys Lee book reading!
Groove Korea’s cover woman and acclaimed author Krys Lee will be reading from her book “Drifting House” today at What The Book? in Itaewon. Get their early if you expect to get in.

On the surface, they could be people you’ve known or people you could imagine having known; yet these familiar faces hide family histories and sorrows dark with secrets and terror too painful to ever tell you about. One such character opens Krys Lee’s debut short story collection, “Drifting House.” In February, “Drifting House” made its way onto the American and British literary landscapes. Published in the U.S. by Viking/Penguin, Lee’s collection of stories has received accolades on both sides of the Atlantic.
Lee is a long-term Seoul expat.

Rock fundraiser

International Couples and Friends Picnic
In response to MBC’s truly shocking news piece “The shocking truth about relationships with foreigners,” members of the group Action Against MBC have organized this picnic to “put forth a positive image of multiculturalism in Korea.” This is a great way to counter MBC’s negative message with a positive one.
In the organizers words: “Come join us to International couples, expats of every nationality and supportive Korean citizens are asked to come out in numbers to exhibit the wide variety of healthy relationships between productive people - Korean and non-Korean - that exist here.
"This event is to be family-friendly, which means, above all else NO ALCOHOL PLEASE and remember that the local media may be in attendance and looking for a story. This picnic is to be a fun event to showcase Korean and non-Korean relationships in a positive, healthy light.
"This is NOT a protest. We will NOT be violating any laws governing foreigners residing in Korea. We will NOT be violating any aspect of the EPIK contract. Anyone attempting to violate any laws or endanger the livelihood or reputation of any picnic attendees will be asked to leave. Please feel secure that you will not be in violation of your contract or of local laws. This picnic does not constitute "political action". The local police office will be informed that there will be a picnic. No banners or signs will be displayed (though flags are welcome and encouraged). No "official" t-shirts will be distributed. No money will be collected. No political message will be conveyed via circulated print, signage or amplified audio.”
